TV & FILM AUDITION PREP in Los Angeles
Give Yourself the Best Chance Possible
______________________________________________
Walking into a casting room or setting up a self-tape for a film or television role is not the same as performing on stage. The technical demands are different. The time physicalities and vocal choices are different. The environment is different.
You have, at most, a few minutes to establish who you are, make strong specific choices, and leave an impression that competes with everyone else who came in that day.
Audition prep coaching at BLS is built around the specific demands of the film and television audition — what it requires technically, what it requires psychologically, and how to do your best work under conditions that are almost never ideal.

Eyelines, framing, stillness, and the specific physical adjustments that make the difference between a performance that reads on screen and one that doesn't. See On-Camera Acting.

Managing Audition Nerves
Breaking down your audition material the way a working actor does — specifically, quickly, and with enough depth to make real choices rather than performing the lines. For more on this process, see Script Analysis.
Not just the performance, but the technical setup, the reader, the slate, the framing, and the choices that make a self-tape competitive rather than just submitted. For dedicated self-tape feedback on material you've already taped, see Self-Tape Review.
Going deeper into material you've already worked, refining choices, adjusting to direction received in the first session, and building consistency across multiple takes. Understanding what a chemistry read is actually assessing and how to approach it, including how to be genuinely present with an actor you've never worked with before.
Practical, technique-based strategies for doing your best work under pressure. Not motivational advice, but actual tools. For more, read Dealing with Nerves.
How This Differs from Growth Coaching
Audition prep at BLS is material-specific and session-focused. You come in with your sides. You leave with clear choices, technical confidence, and a strong tape or in-room performance ready to go.
This is not a class. It's direct, targeted preparation for a specific audition — or a series of sessions building the skills that make you consistently competitive.

What does TV and film audition prep include?
Audition prep is focused on helping you make the strongest possible choices for the audition.
That can include breaking down the material, understanding the character and circumstances, developing emotional life, finding the right physicality, working through the scene, refining your choices, and making sure the performance is appropriate for the camera.
What should I bring to an audition prep session?
Bring everything you've been given for the audition, including the sides and breakdown if you have them.
The more familiar you are with the material, the more time we can spend working on choices rather than simply figuring out what the scene says.
Do I need to be memorized before audition prep?
Not necessarily.
You should know the material well enough that we can work on the performance, but memorization is not the point of the session. Understanding the material and making strong choices are more important than mechanically knowing every word.
Can you help me understand a character I don't understand?
Yes.
If you're struggling to understand who the character is, what they want, what is happening in the scene, or how you relate to the circumstances, that's exactly the kind of problem audition prep can address.
Can you help me with physicality for a TV or film audition?
Yes.
Physicality can have a major effect on how a performance reads on camera. We can work on how the character moves, behaves, occupies space, and relates physically to the circumstances without letting physical choices become distracting or theatrical.
Can you help me make audition choices?
Yes.
Making choices is a major part of audition prep. We can explore different possibilities and determine what makes the most sense for the material, the character, and the medium.
I won't simply tell you what choice to make and expect you to copy it. The goal is for you to understand and inhabit the choice.
Can you help if I'm not sure what the casting director wants?
We can make the strongest choices based on the material you actually have.
No one can know exactly what a casting director wants unless they've told you. The useful work is understanding the character, circumstances, tone, relationships, and material well enough to make a specific, compelling interpretation.
Is audition prep just running lines?
No.
Running lines can help with memorization, but it doesn't necessarily make the performance better.
Audition prep is about understanding the material, making choices, developing the character, and inhabiting the scene. That's what can make a read more specific and more compelling.
Can you help with an audition that requires a specific physicality?
Yes.
If the role calls for a particular way of moving, behaving, fighting, dancing, using an object, or otherwise expressing the character physically, we can work through those choices and determine how they should translate to camera.
Can you help with accents for an audition?
Yes.
Accent work can be incorporated into audition preparation when the role requires it. If the accent requires more concentrated work, dedicated accent coaching may be more appropriate.
Can you help with emotional scenes?
Yes.
We can work on the emotional requirements of the scene without forcing you to manufacture an emotion on command.
The objective is to understand what makes the character's emotional experience believable and find an approach that works for you.
Can we work on online auditions?
Yes.
Auditions can be prepared remotely through online coaching. This is particularly useful when you are not in Los Angeles or when the audition itself will be performed remotely.
Can audition prep be done in person?
Yes. In-person sessions are available in Los Angeles.
How much audition prep do I need?
It depends entirely on the audition and the actor.
Some auditions can be addressed quickly. Others require substantially more work, particularly when the material is complex, emotionally demanding, physically specific, or unfamiliar to the actor.
What if I have a last-minute audition?
Last-minute sessions may be possible depending on availability.
If you have an audition coming up quickly, contact BLS as soon as possible rather than waiting until the last minute.
What if I don't think my audition is very good?
Bring it in.
The purpose of coaching isn't to judge you for having a problem with your audition. It's to figure out what is keeping the performance from working and determine what you can actually do about it.
Will you tell me exactly how to perform the audition?
No.
I'll help you understand the material, identify possibilities, challenge choices that aren't serving the scene, and develop a performance that makes sense for you.
The goal is not to have you imitate my performance. It's to help you make choices you can genuinely inhabit.
What if I disagree with your notes?
That's okay.
Acting isn't about blindly following instructions. If you understand why you're making a choice and believe it serves the material, we can explore it. The point of coaching is to make your thinking and performance stronger, not to make you obedient.
Can audition prep help me get callbacks or book roles?
It can help you become better prepared and make stronger auditions, but there are no guarantees.
Casting decisions involve many factors outside the actor's control. BLS does not promise callbacks, bookings, representation, or any other specific career outcome.
