TECHNIQUE CLASS in Los Angeles

A Good Foundation is Critical
Los Angeles | In Person | Ages 18+ | Wednesdays, 4:00–7:00pm
Great acting isn't mysterious. It's a set of skills. And like all skills, they can be learned, practiced, and made reliable.
The Technique Class at Braden Lynch Studio is designed to give actors a clear, comprehensive foundation: the tools to investigate a script, personalize the material, and explore their choices with freedom and confidence. Whether you're brand new to formal training or have been acting for years without ever quite nailing down the fundamentals, this is where that work gets done.
Many actors who've been at it for a while are surprised to find they've been working without a complete technical foundation. This class addresses that directly, without judgment, and in a room built for it.

why actors choose BLS.
Each week you'll bring prepared work and receive direct, actionable feedback from Braden. Sessions focus on the core pillars of the BLS technique — Investigation, Personalization, and Exploration — applied to real material in real time.
Work may include scene study, emotional access exercises, script analysis, physicality, and accent work. A reader is provided so you can focus fully on your own performance.
What Happens in Class
A Supportive Room
Class sizes are kept between 6 and 12 actors. The environment is collaborative, not competitive. Actors here support each other's growth, risks are encouraged, and honest feedback is delivered with care.
Many actors come here after discouraging experiences elsewhere: feeling torn down, praised without being taught, or lost in a large class where they rarely got to work. This is a different kind of room.
Bonus:
Clients who are actively enrolled in a class at BLS receive Career Guidance and Craft Development Coaching at 50% off.
Who Technique Class is For
The Technique Class is open to actors at any experience level. Whether you're just beginning or have been working for years, if you want a reliable, repeatable process you can trust in any audition room or on any set, you belong here.
Ideal for actors building their toolkit, returning to craft after a break, or seeking consistent, structured weekly practice.
Working Towards Mastery
For actors who develop strong technique and want to go deeper, the next step is the Scene Study Class: an advanced, invitation-only environment for rigorous, high-level work. Technique Class is one of the paths that leads there.

What is the BLS Technique Class?
The Technique Class is ongoing acting training focused on developing the tools that allow you to understand material, make strong choices, and actually inhabit a character rather than simply memorize and repeat lines.
The work is primarily geared toward film and television, but the underlying technique applies across mediums.
Who is the Technique Class for?
Everyone who has been cleared to join. The class includes actors at different stages of their careers and training. You do not need to be a working actor to benefit from the class, and you do not need years of previous training.
What does the Technique Class actually work on?
Whatever aspects of your craft need development. That can include emotional access, script analysis, character development, personalization, physicality, voice, accents, impulses, circumstances, relationships, making choices, and understanding why something is or isn't working in a performance.
The work can change from week to week depending on what each actor needs.
What should I have prepared before arriving for class each week?
You do not need to have everything figured out.
If you want to get up and work, you should at least have some idea of what you want to work on. That can be as specific as "I need to work on this character's physicality," or as broad as "I don't know, maybe some kind of emotional triggering or an accent."
You can also bring in a scene you're completely lost on. We can use it to talk through the technique and figure out what is happening.
You don't have to know how to solve the problem. That's part of what you're here to learn.
Do I need to bring a scene to Technique Class?
No. A scene can be useful, but it isn't required. Technique can be explored through scenes, exercises, emotional work, physical work, vocal work, accents, or simply talking through a problem you're having with your acting.
Can I bring something I'm struggling with even if I don't know what's wrong?
Yes. In fact, that's often useful. You don't need to diagnose your own acting problem before bringing it into class.
Do I have to memorize something before I work?
No. Memorization is not the purpose of Technique Class. If the work you're doing requires a scene, being familiar enough with the material to actually explore it is helpful, but we can also work on technique without a fully memorized scene.
How often can I work in Technique Class?
If you're prepared and want to work, you can work every week. I never tell someone they cannot go up simply because they have already worked or because the official class time is ending. If necessary, I'll stay past the scheduled end of class.
Is the Technique Class competitive?
No. There is no competition for who gets to be the "best" actor in the room. The point is to develop your craft, and actors can learn from watching other people work as well as from working themselves.
Is the Technique Class only for actors who work professionally?
No. Working actors train in the class, but so do actors who are still developing their skills. The class is about your level of training and what you're ready to learn, not how many credits you have.
Can beginners take the Technique Class?
Yes, provided you've had a one-on-one evaluation or coaching session and Braden has cleared you to join.
Can I take Technique Class for just one month?
Yes. Classes are $300 for four consecutive weeks, and you can stop after a cycle if you choose. Many actors continue for months or years because developing technique is an ongoing process.
Is the Technique Class ongoing?
Yes. Each four-week cycle is part of ongoing training rather than a course that you simply complete. As your abilities develop, the work can become more specific and more demanding.
Is Technique Class different from private coaching?
Yes. Private coaching is individualized around you and whatever you specifically need to accomplish. Technique Class gives you ongoing training in a group environment, with the opportunity to learn both from your own work and from watching other actors.
Can Technique Class help me with auditions?
The technique absolutely applies to auditions, and audition-related material can be brought into the class. But Technique Class is not audition preparation. Its purpose is to develop the underlying skills that make you better at the work.
Can we work on accents or physicality in Technique Class?
Yes. If those are areas you need to develop, they can be part of the work. The class is not limited to one particular type of acting exercise.
What if I don't know what I need to work on?
That's okay. You don't need to walk into class with a perfectly articulated training plan. If you know you're struggling with something but don't know how to approach it, bring that problem in and we'll figure out where to start.
Do I need to use a particular acting method to take the class?
No. The BLS technique has roots in Stella Adler's work, though can be more accurately described as a combination of critical thinking and human psychology. It's practical, comprehensive, and focused on what actually works. In the end, the goal is not to force actors into a rigid methodology. The work is about developing a practical understanding of what makes a performance truthful, specific, and effective.
What makes Technique Class different from simply running lines?
Running lines can help you memorize words. It does not necessarily teach you why the character says them, what they mean, what the character wants, or how to inhabit the circumstances.
Technique is about understanding the material and the character deeply enough that the performance becomes an expression of that understanding.
What if I come to class with a scene and have no idea what to do with it?
Bring it anyway. You can come in completely lost and use the scene as a way to explore technique. You are not expected to already know the answer.
How do I join the Technique Class?
Start with a one-on-one evaluation or coaching session, bookable through the menu bar above. Once Braden has seen where you are in your training, he can determine whether the Technique Class is appropriate for you and clear you to join.
