At a certain point in an actor's development, the question shifts.

It's no longer "how do I learn to act?" It's "how do I get better?" And the honest answer to that question is almost never "keep doing what you're doing."

Advanced training at BLS is for actors who have been working at their craft for a while. Those who have technique, experience, and real skill, and who want to push themselves further. Past the plateau. Past the comfort zone. Past the level they've settled into without realizing it.

What "Advanced" Actually Means at BLS

Many actors who consider themselves "advanced" have trained deeply in a single method like Meisner, Strasberg, Adler, or Stanislavski, and have become genuinely skilled within that framework.

But technique-specific depth can mask significant gaps.

An actor who has spent years in Meisner training, for example, may be genuinely excellent at being present and responding truthfully in the moment. That's real and valuable. But Meisner training often leaves significant gaps in script analysis and emotional triggering.

An actor who has trained exclusively in classical technique may have extraordinary text work and vocal precision, but limited access to the kind of contemporary psychological realism that film and television require.

Advanced training at BLS doesn't ask you to abandon what you've built. It identifies where the gaps are and fills them, adding dimensions to your work that previous training may have left undeveloped.

A Note on Technique-Specific Training

Advanced at BLS doesn't mean you've been training the longest. It doesn't mean you have the most credits. It doesn't mean you've reached the highest level of a some other technique.

It means you have a solid foundation of script analysis, emotional access, scene work, and on-camera awareness, and you're ready to do more demanding work with it.

Braden assesses skill level directly. If you're not sure whether you're ready for advanced work, or to apply for the Scene Study Class, an Intro Eval is the easiest path forward.

Deliberately working outside your established type and comfort zone. Comedy if drama is your default. Villain if you tend to play sympathetic. Physical transformation if you typically rely on internal work alone.

The difference between good acting and great acting is often behavioral specificity. The precision of how a character pursues what they want, moment to moment. Advanced work sharpens this.

At the advanced level, the goal is not to apply technique consciously but to have internalized it so that the work flows from genuine engagement with the material rather than from deliberate technical process. Reaching that level of integration takes time, honest feedback, and demanding material.

Advanced Training Options at BLS

Scene Study Class — $300 for Four Consecutive Weeks

Audition Work - $150/hr

The primary home of advanced work at BLS. Small group, demanding material, rigorous feedback, real community. Meets weekly in Reseda.

Targeting specific gaps or challenges. The fastest path to advancing in a particular area.

1-on-1 Growth Coaching - $150/hr

Prepare your in-person audition, tape with Braden, or receive feedback on a tape you've made on your own. If you can take yourself to an 8/10, coaching with Braden can take you the rest of the way.

Online Options

Both classes and private coaching are available online via Zoom. If you're not in Los Angeles, online coaching gives you access to the same training worldwide.
